Dear PASC,

It is with regret and sadness that we write to inform you that we have made the difficult, yet necessary decision to cancel our Summer Camp program for 2020.

This decision was not made lightly. For over 50 years, PASC has offered summer leadership camps uninterrupted, and our decision this year is unprecedented. However, the times we are living in now are unprecedented. As you know, NASSP has made the decision to cancel the in-person 2020 NatStuCo conference in Denver, and many of our fellow student council associations across the country are in the process of cancelling their camp programs as well.

Each year we welcome hundreds of the best student leaders from across Pennsylvania to our camps, and were eagerly planning to do so this year as well. However, with our entire state under stay-at-home orders, an indefinite suspension of the school year, the cancellation of most of our PASC spring conferences, an uncertainty about the availability of college campuses this summer with most schools in the process of moving their summer classes online for 2020, and most importantly, the inability to know what public health guidance will be in place in June and July, we were left with no other decision but to cancel our camps. The safety and wellbeing of our staff and delegates is and always will be most important to us, and in this situation, we must exercise maximum caution to ensure the health and safety of everyone.

We share your disappointment and know that many school events either have been cancelled or postponed, and that this is another opportunity that you will not be able to participate in this spring and summer. We appreciate the efforts of student councils across the state that despite these challenges, are sponsoring virtual or “stay at home” spirit days and events. Even in the midst of a public health emergency, our student leaders are stepping up, and now more than ever your efforts are needed to help promote spirit and unity in your communities.

For those of you who have already paid for camp, your money will be refunded in full, as soon as we are safely able to do so. We also are aware that many families need these funds quickly, and will work to refund money as rapidly as possible.

PASC looks forward to welcoming you all back at events next school year, and we will begin planning now for our camps in the summer of 2021. In the meantime, we are going to work with our amazing camp staff to offer you some unique programming this summer. We will send out more details to you once we have them. Although we know it won’t be the same experience we are all used to, we hope that it will help you prepare for a strong start for when we return to school.

As Queen Elizabeth II said in her recent address on COVID-19:

We should take comfort that while we may have more still to endure, better days will return. We will be with our friends again. We will be with our families again. We will meet again. But for now, I send my thanks and warmest good wishes to you all.

PASC is not any one program, it is all of you, and in this time, we wish you and your loved ones good health, and look forward to meeting with you all again as soon as we can.
