The July State Board of Education meeting was held July 8th-9th, and many important issues were discussed regarding education in Pennsylvania.
There was a debate during the meetings regarding the cut scores for the PSSA Exams, as it was proposed during the May meeting that these cut scores should be raised. We received an extensive presentation from the Department of Education about their proposed cut scores, and how they would be implemented for a transition into the coming years. After much discussion regarding the pros and cons, it was decided that the scores should be raised in both Math and English Language.
Another topic of discussion during the meeting was The Educational Enrichment Initiative (TEEI) and their application to remain as an approved accrediting body for tutoring centers and educational testing and remedial centers. They were granted provisional acceptance in 2013, and they were given 2 years to prove why their application should be accepted. Ultimately, it was determined that they did not meet the requirements that were set, and their request for approval was denied.
